El Salvador is a country ruled by tropical climate located in Central America, with a population of 5, 744, 113 people. Due to the size of the country (21.041 km²) it has the highest density in continental America.

The land that composed the Intendencia de San Salvador (most of the territory now known as El Salvador) gained its independence from Spain in 1821, along with the Capitania General de Guatemala, and ceased to be part of the Central American Federal Republic in 1839. Before, in the precolombine era, a large portion of the area west of the Lempa River was known as Cuscatlan, which means “place of beautiful things” in the native dialect, Nahuat.

A 12 years long civil war between the government and the local guerrilla, which finally came to a end with the signing of the Peace Treaty January 16^th 1992, brought a series of military, social and political changes.
